Abstract

The aim of this study was to evaluate whether Ciprofloxacin free drug is able to prevent infection at the site of infection in patients hospitalized for UTI. The study was conducted on patients hospitalized for UTI who received ciprofloxacin (500 mg/100 mL) and received an antibiotic at the same time. A randomised trial was conducted in a double-blind, double-dummy design. Patients were allocated to treatment or control. A multistage randomised, double-blind, double-dummy design was used. The patients received antibiotic at randomization. The antibiotic group was given either Ciprofloxacin (500 mg/100 mL) or the antibiotic at the same time (4 hours, 1 hour, and 2 hours) as indicated for the acute pyelonephritis or acute uncomplicated UTI. The patients were randomised to receive ciprofloxacin 500 mg/100 mL plus the antibiotic at the same time. They were also randomised to receive the antibiotic at the same time for the following 2 consecutive days: 1 week after randomization and 2 weeks after randomization (after a washout period of 2 days). The study was registered in the Clinical Trials Register (NCT01170939) and the National Institutes of Health Clinical Trials Registry (NCT01170939). The incidence of infection with Ciprofloxacin and the incidence of infection with Ciprofloxacin and the incidence of infection with Ciprofloxacin were compared at each treatment (treatment and Ciprofloxacin) time. The data were analysed by Student's t-test, and the statistical significance was found when the level ofP<.05 was considered significant. The incidence of infection with Ciprofloxacin at the first infection and the incidence of infection with Ciprofloxacin at the second infection were also compared. The results showed that Ciprofloxacin was able to prevent infection at the site of infection in patients hospitalized for UTI, but not at the same time as in the treatment group. There was no significant difference between the two groups in the incidence of infection with Ciprofloxacin and the incidence of infection with Ciprofloxacin at the first infection and the second infection.

Introduction

Ciprofloxacin is a fluoroquinolone, commonly prescribed for infections in various parts of the body caused by bacteria. It works by inhibiting the growth and reproduction of bacteria. Ciprofloxacin can be used to treat a variety of infections, including urinary tract infections, pneumonia, and ear infections. It is also used to prevent infections caused by the bacteria Escherichia coli and Haemophilus influenzae, which are the most common cause of community-acquired pneumonia. The drug can be administered in different formulations, including tablets and capsules, as well as oral solutions.

Uses of Ciprofloxacin

Urinary Tract Infections: Ciprofloxacin is also used for the treatment of urinary tract infections caused by Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Staphylococcus aureus. It can also be used to treat infections in the skin and soft tissues.

How Ciprofloxacin Works

Ciprofloxacin is a fluoroquinolone, which is an antibiotic that is effective against many bacteria. It inhibits bacterial DNA replication by binding to and inhibiting bacterial DNA polymerase. DNA polymerase is a type of enzyme that converts bacterial cells to simpler cells. By inhibiting bacterial DNA replication Ciprofloxacin inhibits bacterial growth by interfering with the replication process of the bacteria itself, thus causing them to die.

Benefits of Ciprofloxacin

  • Swallow Ciprofloxacin wholeheartedly with a full glass of water.
  • Continue to take Ciprofloxacin even if you feel well, even if you start feeling better. Stopping Ciprofloxacin too quickly may lead to the bacteria becoming resistant to the antibiotic. If you have any concerns or side effects after taking Ciprofloxacin, contact your doctor immediately.
